Hello Everybody

Thanks for joining in ;)

A couple of month ago, I encoded a video using VirtulDub and the x264vfw (http://x264vfw.sourceforge.net/) Codec.

Now I am really annoyed that the VLC Player 0.9.9 is not able to play that video. All I get is a black screen with the correct height and width, plus the sound. MPC and Mplayer do play that video perfectly.

Here is a part of that video file (http://home.arcor.de/electric_soul/test.avi).

Is there a way to fix this, without reencoding ? I do not wanna mess up the quality.

Encoding video with a hacked/broken version of x264 produces a broken file that some media players can't play?

or looks like i gotta use something else to encode in x264..... :(

What about Avidemux ? Will this work ? Or are there issues too ?

And stop using x264vfw ;) Encode with x264.exe or a frontend like MeGUI.

Remux your AVI file with MKVToolnix (http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/) to get a MKV file.

What about Avidemux ? Will this work ? Or are there issues too?

Avidemux has none of the issues that VirtualDUb has. It does not use VfW Codecs and it does support suitable containers for H.264, such as MP4 and MKV.

i'd recommend using avidemux to everyone that's used to vdub.
that's really a fantastic piece of software.

Unfortunately a lot of features are still a work in progress, as only two people are working actively (more less) on it...
