View Full Version : Is it possible to get dual angle video (main movie/storyboards) in a single container

This is kind of a stupid question I probably already know the answer is no, but I thought it would be worth asking :)
I am encoding "Grave of the Fireflies" and they have storyboards available as a seperate angle in the video... I would rather not have two encodes with the audio in both if I can avoid it...
I really don't care the container, but would prefer MP4 or MKV.
Thanks!

Make an ISO of your VOBs.

I figured this would be the only solution, is basically re-encode into a DVD format... Ah well :)

I figured this would be the only solution, is basically re-encode into a DVD format... Isn't your source the DVD, in which case there is no need to re-encode into a DVD format?

I was looking to reduce file size...
I am looking to backup my DVD library on my computer, to eventually create a media server to serve files to my 32" LCD. As cheap as TB external drives are, I'd rather not expend all that extra cash at the moment... so I'm looking to get 1-1.5GB encodes for each of my videos, which is still fairly high quality, enough to satisfy me, anyway...
This may just be one of the discs that if I want all the bells and whistles that I just pop it into the DVD player...
If I decode/shrink/re-encode into an ISO, I can still make it work for my purposes, it's just too much thought, and a bit of extra software (and a learning curve on dvd authoring) I'm just not willing the spend the time on :)
I didn't think that switching videos streams in a container would be possible, just thought it might be worth asking.
Thanks!

Never hurts to ask. :)
I believe MKV can support multiple video streams but I don't know if the players allow for switching but mkvmerge apparently supports muxing multiple video streams. It might be worth experimenting with.

Might be interested to see if Haali's media splitter might at least recognize it has more than 1 stream... hmm... :)
Thanks!

Haali's media splitter recognizes and allows switching for multiple video streams in a MKV container.
But to match the movie video with the storyboard will be tricky.
If It was me, I would make a bogus movie with the storyboard.
Something like:
BBBBBSBBBBBBBBBBBBBBSBBBBBBBBBBBBSBBBBBBBB
where B is a black frame and S is a storyboard frame set at the time it's supposed to appear based on the movie.
