Hi, I've got a H264/AC3 .m2ts video file I can play with VLC on my notebook, but when I try to read it on the PS3 (XMB), only the sound comes out. I tried to remux the video with tsMuxer but it still won't work. I know there is a problem with the AVC but I can't see what, any help will be much appreciated. Here is the file : http://superuploader.net/c88a6b472930-Test-1-m2ts.html and here is the log from Media Info :

Too many ref frames.

Is there any way to lower them without reencoding the video ?

Of course not. A ref frame is a reference frame. I think you'll know why you can't lower them.

Yeah... cause it defines the frames that come after, so I guess there is no solution except rencoding  Btw when Media Info says "ReFrames : 12 frames", does it mean there are 12 references frames per second ? And which number of RF do you advise for full compatibility with hardware players ?

No, it's the number of previous frames used as predictors in B- and P-frames.

How can that video be L4.1 when the number of refs says otherwise?
For L4.1 at 1280x546, the maximum number is 11.

The number of refs is the maximum number of frames a frame can refer to.

Because the level is only a "tag" and you can write in there whatever you want.

Yep you could try to lower the ref frame flag value inside the bitstream and see what the PS3 does then ;)

in some earlier encodes for my PS3 I even had problems to go higher than 8 refs in SD (720x576)

How did this become L4.1, as there is no reason to touch the level flag because x264 does that automatically?

coz some ppl think that just tagging a video stream as level 4.1 makes it a level 4.1 video stream...

With the formers ps3 firmwares you had to retag your 5.1 level in 4.1 otherwise you would have had a black screen. But now it handles it. I really don't know why the releaser tagged it 4.1 since the file was in a mkv with DTS sound so not intended for the ps3.
