Hi.

I would like to let everyone know that MakeMKV ( http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=144611 ) is now available for Linux. MakeMKV is a tool that decrypts/remuxes DVD and Blu-ray discs into MKV files playable by many software and hardware players. The instructions for installing are at http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224 . Enjoy :)

I can't compile this due to nvidia drivers being installed. They conflict with libgl1-mesa-dev and mesa-common-dev. Any suggestions other than uninstalling nvidia drivers?

i compiled it and i had nvidia drivers installed...
no conflicts here (linux mint/ubuntu 8.10 test machine). screenshot (http://www.webalice.it/f.corriga/temp/schermata2.png).

That's strange. I run Ubuntu Intrepid and when I go to install libgl1-mesa-dev the package manager wants to remove my nvidia-177 driver.

uhm, weird... it even starts with no problems... screenshot (http://www.webalice.it/f.corriga/temp/schermata3.png)
how did you install the nvidia drivers?

how did you install the nvidia drivers?

Through the package manager. I was looking at this closer and it appears the problem is that I have the dev package for the nvidia 177 driver installed. If I try to install mesa-common-dev it wants to remove the nvidia-dev package along with a ton of other dev packages. What a kludge!! Damn Ubungo!

Do you mind posting your compiled binary and libs?

nope.
Can you please provide the info about MKB v10 disc that failed to open? It should work.

Unfortunately it fails about 80% into the "My Best Friend's Girl" Blu-Ray and just says "1 failed".

I've tried makemkv on 4 Blu-Rays now. I do like the application, it's very easy to use. Here are my results:

My Best Friend's Girl: success
Being There: fail, no video from mkv, possibly a vc1 issue
Apocalypto: fail, error partway through
El Norte: fail, no support for main PCM audio stream

Has anyone had better luck?

I have not had much luck either:

Superbad: successful rip, choppiness in a few places (watchable)
Ironman: successful rip, rampant choppiness (completely unwatchable)
Venture Brothers Season 3 (VC-1): "successful rip" - audio but no video (VC-1 problem has not been fixed, as of v1.4.2)
Body of Lies (VC-1): "successful rip" - audio but no video (VC-1 issue again)
