Hello everyone,

Its been a long time since i've asked for help here but i find myself struggling and need the input from those far more capable then me.

I have no need to make this work but now i have tried to do this and failed I have to understand why and make it work :sly:, so here is my problem.

I wanted to put two of my daughters dvd's, movies and menu's only onto one dvd to use when she went on camp. This was easy enough. The problem came when i dry ran my work and found one of the menu's didn't work. As it happened it had been changed on the original. Easy enough i thought, i will re build it to work completely.

I have rebuilt the menu and it works BUT the little icon which indicates which option you are going to select dosen't follow when i navigate the menu!!

No matter what i do i cant make this happen so look to you to educate me. I have not given chapter n verse as to what i have/haven't done otherwise this would be a very long post.

Looking forward to your input

Not sure what you mean by "the little icon which indicates which option you are going to select dosen't follow when i navigate the menu". Is it the highlight only that doesn't move? In other words, if you select another button and activate it, does it work even if you can't see it?

Anyway, imo, it is probably easier to import your original menu. My method to append a second DVD is this:
Say your DVD A has 3 titlesets, and DVD B has 2 titlesets. DVD B has no video content in the VMGM. You want to add DVD B to DVD A.

Begin by importing 3 dummy titlesets in DVD B. Move them to the beginning of the DVD. The real titlesets of DVD B are now VTS 4 and 5. They are now at the position they will occupy in the final compilation.

Now, see how many VMGM PGCs there are in your DVD A. Create the same number of dummy VMGM PGCs in DVD B, and move them to the beginning of the domain. Now, the real PGCs of the domain are at the right place.

The two previous steps are handy, as PgcEdit fixes all jumps and calls to point to the right place automatically. It cannot do that automatically when you import a VTS or copy the commands manually.

Now, in DVD A, import titlesets 4 and 5 of DVD B, plus their menu(s).

Create the right number of VMGM PGCs, and copy the commands of the corresponding PGCs of DVD B to DVD A.

Now, you just have to change the jumps to Titles in the commands you have just copied in the new VMGM PGCs to point to the right Title numbers, and implement a way to swap to one DVD to the other with the remote, and you're done. The menu of DVD B should not need to be modified (except if you want to add a button to jump to DVD A.)

Hi r0lZ

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes you understand correctly the buttons work, i just cant see that they work because the highlight is missing.

I can't import the menu as it was "disabled" on the original disk the buttons moved and their commands deleted :( . I have tried to recreate the menu but i dont have a complete understanding of how to do this.

What i have done is the following:
Created these commands in VTSM 1,LU 1(en),6

********** pre commands:
[61 00 00 01 00 81 00 00] 1 Set gprm(1) =(mov) sprm(1:Audio stream number)
[79 00 00 01 00 07 00 00] 2 Set gprm(1) &=(and) 7
[61 00 00 02 00 82 00 00] 3 Set gprm(2) =(mov) sprm(2:Sub-picture stream number)
[79 00 00 02 00 40 00 00] 4 Set gprm(2) &=(and) 64
[71 00 00 00 00 00 00 00] 5 Set gprm(0) =(mov) 0
[20 A6 00 00 00 07 24 07] 6 if ( gprm(0) == 7 ) then { LinkPGN Program 7, button 9 (9216) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 06 24 06] 7 if ( gprm(0) == 6 ) then { LinkPGN Program 6, button 9 (9216) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 05 24 05] 8 if ( gprm(0) == 5 ) then { LinkPGN Program 5, button 9 (9216) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 04 24 04] 9 if ( gprm(0) == 4 ) then { LinkPGN Program 4, button 9 (9216) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 04 24 03] 10 if ( gprm(0) == 4 ) then { LinkPGN Program 3, button 9 (9216) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 02 24 02] 11 if ( gprm(0) == 2 ) then { LinkPGN Program 2, button 9 (9216) }
[20 06 00 00 00 00 24 01] 12 LinkPGN Program 1, button 9 (9216)
********** post commands:
[61 00 00 01 00 81 00 00] 1 Set gprm(1) =(mov) sprm(1:Audio stream number)
[79 00 00 01 00 07 00 00] 2 Set gprm(1) &=(and) 7
[61 00 00 02 00 82 00 00] 3 Set gprm(2) =(mov) sprm(2:Sub-picture stream number)
[79 00 00 02 00 40 00 00] 4 Set gprm(2) &=(and) 64
[20 A6 00 00 00 07 20 07] 5 if ( gprm(0) == 7 ) then { LinkPGN Program 7, button 8 (8192) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 06 20 06] 6 if ( gprm(0) == 6 ) then { LinkPGN Program 6, button 8 (8192) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 05 20 05] 7 if ( gprm(0) == 5 ) then { LinkPGN Program 5, button 8 (8192) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 04 20 04] 8 if ( gprm(0) == 4 ) then { LinkPGN Program 4, button 8 (8192) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 03 20 03] 9 if ( gprm(0) == 3 ) then { LinkPGN Program 3, button 8 (8192) }
[20 A6 00 00 00 02 20 02] 10 if ( gprm(0) == 2 ) then { LinkPGN Program 2, button 8 (8192) }
[20 06 00 00 00 00 20 01] 11 LinkPGN Program 1, button 8 (8192)
********** cell commands:
[20 01 00 00 00 00 00 05] 1 LinkTopPG

This PGC has 9 programs, each with 9 buttons. Each program is a still of the menu with for example an icon next to english to indicate this is current button whilst navigating the menu and would change if the current button was norsk etc. Then when you click the button for the menu option you want you should get the highlight.

Hope this helps and doesn't make things more confussing.

I'm sorry to have to do this but I must close this interesting thread.

I can't import the menu as it was "disabled" on the original disk the buttons moved and their commands deleted
If this is true, it would imply you don't have the original commercial DVD (otherwise, you'd just pull that out and retrieve the authoring and original menu).

Therefore, this is a violation of rule 6. Please read all the stuff here related to rule 6, including the announcement at the top of the Newbies forum (http://forum.doom9.org/announcement.php?f=6) and mpucoder's sticky in this forum (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=50765).

I am re-opening this thread as the OP has proved to me that he has the original DVD.

@berrick - I suggest you use the methodology as outlined by r0LZ in post 2 starting from your original rip (i.e. forget about re-creating botched menus), where no edits have been made/buttons disabled. There will be some messing around with calls to titles and VTSs and whatever, but it shouldn't be too hard. You should also remove all useless menu LUs (including useless VMGM LUs, where you can remove all the video content if there are no buttons) and reclaim space with FixVTS.

Many cells in the menus may be useless, too. For example, in your VTSM 1, 6 above, precommands 6-11 are always false and if (and only if) no button ever goes to cell/programs 2-9 and that cell command 1 is executed after program 1, they can safely be removed too (again reclaim space with FixVTS). But this is a finesse and usually, you won't have to do/be able to do anything with this.

As for highlights not showing, this is totally a function of the subpictures in the menu VOBs, the colour lookup table in the relevant PGC and the colour scheme used for each button. To ascertain how things look, load the menu VOB in DVDSubEdit - it will show highlights (Ctrl-q to toggle between highlighted and activated) and you can cycle through the buttons using Ctrl-n and Ctrl-p. Or check in your favourite software player - eg PowerDVD/Showtime.
