As I mentioned in an earlier post, I recently purchased an HP Pavilion AMD Phenom Quad Core (and a Dell 22" widescreen flat panel)for one of my grandchildren.

The computer has Vista installed. (I've had virtually no exposure to Vista, as I've been perfectly satisfied with XP SP3 on all of my systems). I received a call from my grandson's father (my son), in which he said the screen goes black after what appears to be random periods of no mouse activity - sometimes after an hour, others after just a few minutes.

I did a little research, told him to rightclick on an empty spot on the screen and select "Personalize", then "Screensaver" and set it to 9,999 minutes. I was advised that doing so (Yes, the setting was saved) had no impact on this seemingly anomalous behavior.

I'm presuming that there's something I'm just not aware of regarding Vista - so, if anyone knows how to overcome this annoying behavior, please be god enough to share your insight with me ;>}

Well, on WinXP there are the "Power Options Properties", where you see the "Turn off monitor" option. That needs to be set to "Never" to prevent the screen from going black.

Not sure, but on Vista there may an equal setting in addition to the Screensaver configuration....
