Hello, I have a few 1080p WMV files which are about 8gb each. I would like to play them on my Xbox360 through a WD Passport that I have. The problem is that it's formatted in FAT32 because the 360 won't recognize NTFS. I cannot copy files larger than 4gb over the USB cable.
My question is, is there a way I can convert the 1080p wmv file down to maybe 720p while keeping the 16:9 aspect ratio? If so which program do I use? Also, do you think 720p will be a big enough drop the bring the file size down below 4gb. Or will I have to do something more drastic. Thanks in advance!

Windows Movie Maker can do it.... you may or may not get them under 4gb.....
You may need to look at a streaming solution, or store them on DVD-DL's.
If you take the recode route you should recode your original source and not the 8gb WMV's.

Thanks, I'll take a look at Movie Maker and see what I can do. I had just tried using Windows Media Encoder 9 but it made it look really squished on my TV. It converted it to a 4:3 aspect ration and you could easily tell it was messed up. :P

Cut with ASFBin to 3.9 gig segments plus a remainder.

I would prefer to keep them as a single file. Quality loss isn't too much of an issue, it's mainly just backup.
Where did you get them?
I ripped the DVDs (Star Wars 1 - 3 & Iron Man) to a WMV. I just got a 500gb WD Passport and would prefer to have my DVD collection on the drive instead of switching out DVDs.
Maybe I should just restart and rip the DVDs to a different format? I would like to keep it around 720p if possible, but a wide 480p (704x480) would be alright. I just want to backups to fill my TV and not have a distorted stretchy look to them.
If only the 360 supported NTFS :(

DVDs are NOT 1080p. Upscaling is pointless. Rip to 480p. IF, for some incomprehensible reason, your files are still >4GB (concatenating the LoTR series, for instance), cut them into appropriate sizes (<4 GB) with ASFBin or ASFBinGUI.

DVDs are NOT 1080p. Oops. Thread closed for rule 6 violation.
