So... We have this standardized container called MP3. And it supports ID3 metadata. But now we have one called MP4 (for a while), and...

1. What is the standard way of tagging this thing?
2. What tags do we use for movies (motion pictures)?
3. What's the correct subtitle format (VobSub vs. SRT)?
4. What's the standard way of embedding chapter spots?

I would like to get situated with MP4 so that I can use an industry standard design and not something like MKV, which seems way more coherant.

MP3 is not a container. MP4 is a container but also a standard, etc.

You can tag it with Atomic Parsley or (I think) mp4box.
SRT works as mp4box can convert it to timed text (TTXT).
Chapters can be embedded from XML or the familiar DVD Decrypter OGM format - I'm not sure what conversion they undergo in mp4box to be compatible.
