View Full Version : Windows ProRes Decoder - slow?

Hey all,

I've been doing some work with ProRes files recently, and noticed the Windows decoder seems hideously slow.

I'm only seeing ~ 25% CPU usage when transcoding to x264 on an 8 core machine, which means 2 cores are being used. I'd imagine that means I'm decoder bound, and the decoder is possibly 2 threaded?

My file is 1080p24, for reference.

What are your results, guys?

Yes, it is slow as hell.Probably another great Apple idea just to let you know Macs are faster :D

It would be great if someone decided one day to make a compatible open source component (with encoding too)..

Indeed.

I have a sneaking, snickering suspicion that ProRes is highly similar to DNxHD. FFMPEG now has DNxHD encoding and decoding, so maybe it's possible? :)

I hope so!
