Absolute simplest way to convert one TV show from DVD into AVI

When a DVD has multiple programs (like TV shows), what is the easiest way to select one of the shows and convert it to an AVI file? Presume that the VOBs, etc, are already on a hard drive, but I would like to make the conversion process as simple as possible.

The AVIs don't have to be top quality. They are not for redistribution.

I seem to remember a program that automated most of the process, but it's been a while. I don't even remember what it was. Ideas welcome.

By "one TV show", you mean a whole show consisting of multiple episodes, or just one episode? This isn't clear from what you said.

If it's just one episode, does it have it's own VOB(s), or are there multiple episodes in a VOB?

Notwithstanding the above, the key to converting TV episodes as painlessly as possible is to rip them properly in the first place. If you have the source DVDs with you, I suggest you start from scratch using this (http://forum.videohelp.com/topic301015.html)guide.

There was a recent thread where someone had created a tool that worked with DVD Decrypter to automatically select and individually rip an episodic disk. It can also be done manually in .ifo mode by selecting each PGC and ripping, and it's fairly easy. From there, one of the easiest methods to convert to AVI is AutoGK. It will not directly process an episodic disk without lumping all the individual shows into one large AVI.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, of course just one episode. I could have been more clear.

Not sure how episodes normally map to VOBs. I don't do this stuff much. (hence the desire for simplicity). Is there a convention for how that is handled?

I do remember that I found a relatively painless method that seemed reliable, but that was a few years ago. Misplaced my notes, unfortunately. It may have involved DVDDecryptor, and the instructions in your link sound familiar. But I don't recall using AutoGK. Is there another equivalent? (I remember GK kicking my ass a long while ago <g>).

Another way is to rip the entire disk with dvd decrypter in file mode with "split by cell id" option enabled. then index the cells you want with dgindex.
