View Full Version : What app to use for video effect?

OK so I've looked at several different apps and still can't figure out if any of them will do what I want.

I have a clip of two girls watching TV. The clip shows them sitting on a bed and one girl changes the channel. The camera then flips around to show the tv. I want to change what they are watching on the tv.

I know how to do a picture-in-picture. And I can get the secondary clip on top of the tv, resized to almost fit. My problem is the tv's screen ISN'T SQUARE!! It's a ROUNDED rectangle. Like an old tv from the 50s.

What program can I use to change the shape of the second video from 90 degree square corners into round? Also, after a few seconds of playing on the tv it'd be nice if I could then morph the video out of the tv to fullscreen.

I can't afford payware right now so I'm looking for a free app that could handle something like this. So far I've played with Wax and ZS4. Wax keeps freezing on me and ZS4's UI isn't very user friendly. I can get them to do basic PiP and they both have Chroma Key (should I need it) but I'm not sure if either one of them could do the shape or morph thing.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, aj

PS I'm on a windows box

Any NLE that supports masks would be easiest. You can use Blender or windows movie maker since both of those are free on windows.

or you can script it using avisynth.

How would I make my video into a rounded rectangle in AviSynth? Like I said the PiP isn't the problem it's the SHAPE.

Also, could you explain a bit more about the masks?

I did look into Blender but haven't gotten as far as downloading it yet. Instead of installing/uninstalling a bunch of different apps, I thought I'd ask for ideas first.

Thanks, aj
