I have been tossing around the idea of hooking up my HDTV via HDMI to my PC and playing all the video(dvd, bluray, dv, even tv) from the pc. and where I need your help is in identifying some components(hardware and software) that will offer high picture quality.

Here's the primary goal/objective - I want good deinterlacing, resizing and chroma upsampling. In effect I do not want the TV video processor to do anything to the video stream! So -

What player should I consider (for example vlc, mpc, mplayer) ?
What plugins and filters for good high quality deinterlacing, resizing and chroma upsampling ?
What video card for HDMI output ?
anything else that I am missing ?

Any direction, guidance highly appreciated! Looking forward to your comments!
Thanks!

i personally use mpc-hc for all my movies, wide choice of options and settings.
for de interlacing i use either yadif via ffdshow or coreavc. yadif seems to give me best results for smoother playback of double frame rate sports events.

i have an 8800GT which has HDMI output hooked up to my 42" toshiba HD tv. it has a native hdmi port, or you can use any card with a dvi connector and hdmi adapter.
