shouldn't roozhou's theory be gone about in the opposite direction, a la HydrogenAudio's ABX rule? if he can present a scenario that he can ABX within 99% of perceivable degredation, THEN there's something to look at?

seconded @ the 16core porn. i want an i7 soooooo bad.. but, even without considering my personal finances, i want to know for SURE that X58 will support 6core/12thread i7s before i take the leap...

You know when you're an x264 junkie when you consider 16 core rigs hot ;) (I'm poking fun at myself here too, for the record).

In all seriousness though, I have a little bit of an idea that would involve writing a script to pass off 2 sets of parameters to x264 that are randomly picked from some predefined params (One for threads 1, another for 16). Of course, it would write to a separate file which one is which but you should view each video in full to pick which one is better, then check which one was encoded with what settings.

I may actually do this out of boredom.

You know there are people under 18 that are on this forum right (I'm one of them).

But yes, that 16 core rig is dope. I need a 16 core rig. My quad is too slow for insane setting x264 encoding that I'm doing.

I'm really becoming an x264 junkie! I'm actually "addicted" to x264. I can't stop going on this forum everyday.

Oh boy, if you think that's slow try running an ancient Athlon 64 X2 @ 2 GHz. HD + prefiltering = 2 - 3 day encoding :(
