View Full Version : DVD Shrink subtitle problem with AutoGK

I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the Subtitles forum. If this was the wrong choice, I hope a moderator will move to the right area.

I'm trying to run a clip that I created using DVD Shrink reauthor mode thru AutoGK (version 2.55). The problem I have is that the subtitle index is off. The display times in the idx file for the subs seem to be where they would have been displayed in the full film, and not the times where the subs should display in the clip.

I see a couple of old threads on this...

But I don't see that the problem was resolved. Sure, for a single small clip I could edit the idx file manually. But this would get to be a major PITA if I want to do many clips.

Is this a problem with how DVD Shrink reauthors, or a problem with how AutoGK reads the IFO? Is there a util that I can use to correct the display times? Any suggestions on this matter would be much appreciated.

What happens when you play the DVD that Shrink reauthored? Do you get subs? No, eh? Then it's not an AutoGK problem, is it, if you don't see any subs in a DVD you open in GKnot. The IDX timestamps you read about in the other threads are the same timings as in the reauthored DVD. AutoGK didn't change them.

When reauthoring with Shrink, go Edit->Preferences->Output Files, check the "Logical remapping of enabled streams" box and then reauthor. Does that solve the problem?

Subs play just fine on the DVD Shrink reauthored clip, whether Logical remapping is ticked or not. And the display times are wrong in the idx file whether the setting is ticked or not. I did a file compare on the IFOs and they are identical.

Darn, I thought sure I had the fix. In that case I apologize and I don't know of any better solution than the one I suggested in those threads to which you linked - setting a delay in the IDX file.

Maybe someone else has a better idea. Or maybe len0x could have a look at the problem. It wouldn't hurt to ask in the Subtitles Forum.

Edit: Apparently it's a VobSub problem. In the AutoGK FAQ it says:
3.4 Subtitles are out of synch/absent. What's wrong?
- Angle and PGC file naming probably was not used AutoGK has not idea about what was ripped. Of course sometimes DVD can be badly mastered, in which case you have to manually deal with them. Also subs will not be shown properly if you selected only several chapters/cells from PGC as VobSub only works with the whole vobset.

Absolutely no need to apologize. I appreciate you trying to help. Thanks for the pointer to that info in the FAQ; I hadn't seen it when I was searching the forum.

It does seem weird that the subs display when they are supposed to when the reauthored clip is played. So there must be something in the files somewhere that makes it work right. I may take your advice and post the question in the Subtitles forum.

Thanks again for your help.
