I'm new to to this so sorry if this is a silly question or the wrong forum to post it in, but I have an MPEG TS video file that needs converting and everything I've tried results in a squished image. Is there an easy to use program out there that can handle this conversion?

Hi!

You should simply use the same program that you use to create the original 1440x1080 TS video.

BTW - Why did you create it at 1440x1080, if you need to have it at 1280x720?

maybe he recorded it directly... no need to allude to anything dodgy here.

i personally use ripbot264 as it handles avc TS 1440 bbchd/itvhd files just fine and i can chose to resize to 720p :)

When you convert 1440 x 1080 to 1280 x 720, you're changing the aspect ratio from 1.33 to 1.78, so of course it's going to look squished. You either have to add borders or use a 1.33 output AR.

@CWR03, that's not right.

1440x1080 TS's are anamorphic, on playback they are stretched to 1920x1080. So all you do is resize to 1280x720 and the aspect ratio is correct.

Thanks but is there a program you can recommend other than ripbot? I don't have Vista/Vista fonts nor do I want to uninstall the codec packs it asks to

@ synce - Manually do DGIndex/DGAVCIndex to dgmpgdec/dgavcdec in AviSynth, pass that to x264 any way you'd care to, remux to MKV with the original audio. Of course, this is easier to do with Ripbot or MeGUI, and codec packs cause more problems than they solve...

Give AVIDemux a burl, you'll find it quite easy to use yet allow you to do some pretty advanced stuff.
