I used Auto GK for the first time ever to convert VOB files from a DVD to AVI. I pointed the tool to pick up the IFO file as i wanted to merge all the VOBs into one single AVI file. Here are the settings which i used:

1. XVID codec and AC3 filter (for audio).
2. Output size set to target quality of 75%
3. Output resolution set to Auto
4. Output audio set to Auto.

If I play the AVI file in Windows Media Player the forward and rewind buttons are disabled. My original purpose of creating these file was to consume it from Sony internet link module (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DMXNV1-Bravia-Internet-Video/dp/B000RFURG0) which has capability to connect to PC and play WMV and AVI files. I can play the file just fine but even there the forward and rewind are disabled. This is very restrictive and painful as sometimes i want to skip certain portions of the video.

Is there something which i am doing wrong? How can i fix this?

Hi,

When testing in MPC (mediaplayer classic), I know that skip forward and skip back are disabled for avi and functionnal for DVD cause it uses chapters not present in an AVI but, at the same time, increase and decrease speed are usable. WMP-9 doesn't seem to have the same functionnality => try other players !

Edit.. or if you cannot use another player, try changing container; for example, MKV has chapters

Thanks Did. Appreciate your reply. Even if i try other players and it works on the PC it still does not help my original goal. I want to stream my AVI files to sony internet module linked above which supports streaming mpg, AVI and WMV files. How is it that i play other AVI files (not built using XVID codec) in WM player and i am able to forward and rewind them and not the ones created using Auto GK?
I read somewhere on internet that this may because the AVI file having this issue is not indexed and there are some tools available which can be used to reindex and fix this problem. Would you know anything about it?
