View Full Version : Fixing aspect ratio on DVD without re-encoding?

Hi,

I received a DVD from the UK which I requested in NTSC format since my DVD player won't play PAL. The DVD plays fine except the aspect ratio appears to be wrong. It plays with a 4:3 aspect ratio but everything looks squished so it seems like it's supposed to be an anamorphic widescreen DVD but is not automatically stretched. If I use my TV's control to stretch the video horizontally to fill the screen, then it looks correct.

Is there any way to re-burn this DVD with the correct aspect ratio info so that the DVD player stretches correctly, but without having to re-encode the video or audio? If so, what's the easiest way to do this (preferably in Windows)?

Thanks!

You might be able to do it with DVD Patcher or Restream . You may have to re-author, but there will be no re-encoding

Thanks, I'll give those a try.

What about IfoAR2WS (http://www.svcd2dvd.com/Software/IfoAR2WS.aspx?)?

Is modifying the IFO files enough or do you need to modify the VOB files?

Modifying the IFO for that specific VTS should be enough to fix the aspect ratio
