View Full Version : Automkv / AutoGK - where's the audio?

Hi,

I'm trying to rip a DVD I made with premier elements (lost source files - need to recover video clips for future projects). Have tried using Automkv and AutoGK which seem to work fine with no errors but nothing I try results in audio when I play back using windows media player (or playback via premier elements). I went back to the instructions for automkv and made sure I had all the pre-req elements installed - no issues there.

Any ideas or thoughts on where I may have gone wrong will be appreciated (log for automkv pasted below - did not see a way to capture a log for autogk).

Thanks,
Bennie Gibson

Thanks - I'll go back and double check but I'm pretty sure I've selected the first audio track and ALL TRACKS as well as selecting vts_01_01.vob. Be back soon with the results.

Hope this doesn't end up a duplicate post - thought I submitted earlier but don't see it. "Without selecting All Audio Tracks" - I only have 2 choices NONE / "All Audio Tracks".

see screen shots for both WMV and AVI attached

Will appreciate any other thoughts or ideas on why I'm not hearing audio on playback of resulting WMV or AVI files.

Thanks,
Bennie

on a separate note - just in case... I downloaded automkv 0984 but it hangs... wondering if I missed directions on moving from 0983 to 0984. THANKS!

please donwload the full 0.98 and the update. DON'T MOVE THE FOLDER, simply don't use older folder

and.. retry with your vob

from what i see there isn't audio at all on your file

Thanks - went back and did the following:
- did full new install of 0.983 into a NEW FOLDER then copied 0.984 update (exe) into the same NEW FOLDER as 0.983 full install
- ran the following tests:
create an AVI file / all tracks audio from vts_01_1.vob
- AC3 audio / xvid
- copy original audio / xvid
- lame audio / xvid
- copy original audio / divx
none of the above resulted in audible audio output when playing the resulting file back from windows media player. NOTE: This is a DVD authored via premier elements - when the DVD is played using windows media player, I hear audio. So, I know there is a usable audio track on it.

re-running the test
avi - lame audio / divx (no usable file resulted)
still to run
avi - ac3 audio / divx

NOTE: selecting a WMV container resulted in automkv looping. I'm thinking there may be a problem with the WMV profiles for this install but not exactly sure what to try for a fix.

Thanks again for your input,
Bennie

open the vob with dgindex, the create the project d2v

is audio created ? if yes, launch automkv, and AS input point to the d2v file
automkv will also ask for audio file

about wmv .. i will check

Thanks for your continued feedback...
Ran DGINDEX against VTS_01_1.VOB, fed resulting DV2 and AC3 files as input to automkv - created an AVI file. Still no audible output when I playback the AVI file. I'm beginning to wonder if this is an audio codec problem. I installed AC3 filter then tried to playback the AC3 audio file that was output by DGINDEX. Quicktime recognizes the file and plays it but no audible output. WM does not recognize the AC3 extension - will play the file but no audible output.

I also ran AutoGK overnight - same results. AVI file built but no audible output. This one is a real head scratcher - going to find a different DVD not authored by premier elements and see if I can eliminate some other variable.

Thanks again for you thoughts and input on this,
Bennie

Color my face red - I recently connected my speaker output to line-in for capturing some audio and never reconnected. The suggestion for MPC led met to test other audio file formats and pointed in this direction.

My thanks for your help and my apologies for not having gone there in the first place.

THanks,
Bennie
