Will PowerDVD eventually upgrade to play TrueHD/DTSHD sound??

I've been learning how to back up my BD's on to my HDD and most of the methods involve converting over to a format supported by PowerDVD.

It just seems like so much trouble could be avoided as well as a better quality video if PowerDVD could handle the HD formats.

Although i almost definitely couldn't tell the difference in sound am i wasting my time trying to copy and convert if an upgrade could save me from doing all this? I guess unless that update is soon i suppose i'm not wasting my time...

1) According to the PowerDVD Ultra (7.3) "splash screen", it already does.

2) Perhaps it's your system that can't handle those audio formats.

Also PDVD doesn't support playback from HDD anymore so you will need to do some format changing somewhere.

that must be it. Since my BD drive came with PDVD i just found it weird why it couldn't handle trueHD/dtsHD.

But if the problem is playing it from my HDD which they probably don't expect many to do then i can see that.

Then you think they'll ever change it to support playback from my HDD with HD sound capabilities?

Hi,

A quick look at your post triggered something. If you have a version of PDVD7 that came with your BD drive you may need to download an update. My LG superblue came with PDVD7 but only played in stereo out of the box. There is/was a free upgrade on the cybersoft website that enabled trueHD and DTS in multi channel. PLEASE PLEASE check this before you make any changes to your system. I bought PDVD8 to get full BD+ etc and run my back ups as .iso files (check eksewhere on forums for how). Works a treat. Be aware that Cybersoft downsample all hi res formats to 16bit 48k before outputting to your soundcard so in some respects you still don't get the full HD resolution. there are other players (MPC HC and arcsoft from memory) that will give you the full 24bit soundtrack. I have used MPC HC with success but not the arcsoft as you have to pay for it and am happy with MC and PDVD8 for playback duties.

Have you as yet (I believe this is the third time I'm suggesting this to you) tried simply creating an .ISO image file of the BluRay disc on your hard drive and mounting it, using "Virtual Clone Drive"? When you do this, PowerDVD should see and play your "rip" AS IF IT WAS a Blu Ray disc...

Would i still be able to take off the languages, extra scenes, subtitles,... i don't need/want?

B/c if not then this is completely pointless information. Kinda like jumping though hoops using eac3to when there were two other programs 100x easier to use that worked perfect...
