Blu-Ray to HDD to Stream over Media Center

Alright, I have one that I'm pretty sure can be done just havent found a piece of software to do it. I want to rip a Blu-ray to a file that can be seen by windows media center so I can stream it through my xbox. Any ideas? I am using Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. I also have ubuntu 64-bit if it can be done on linux as well.

Ah yes, i do exactly the same thing!

I have used windows 7 x64 and vista ultimate x64 to do this.
You can either stream through windows media player, or use another program like TVersity to handle it. I would recommend tversity... less of a headache and its easier to maintain your library. Also if you have media thats not immediatly compatible with your xbox, TVersity will transcode it on the fly with no input from the user.

There are plenty of guides around here for ripping and transcoding bluray media.

Your format options are:
h.264 (L4.1) + 2channel AAC + mp4 container
xvid/divx + 2channel mp3 or 5.1 AC3 + avi container
wmv + 5.1 wma pro

So unfortunately if you want 5.1 sound you have to use the windows media format or xvid/divx.

There is not a single program that will do all that. But you can rip blu-rays to your computer, and re-mux or de-mux them to get the main movie. Then you can put the movie in a container that is easy to stream to xbox.

Take note of RunningSkittles comments, XBOX 360's are a tricky beast sometimes and you have to get the codecs right, for good video quality and proper 5.1 sound i used to use AVI with XVID video and AC3 audio, the only way to get h264 video playing on Xbox 360 is via MP4 container but you do not get 5.1 sound you are limited to 2 channel stereo.

I sold my 360 and baught a PS3, much better for media playback plus built in Blu Ray!!!
