Wondering is there any way to transform mpeg2 video into avc, without reencoding. Like motion vectors and compensated data. AVC is more advanced, it support all mpeg2 tricks plus many more own. So huffman will be replaced with CABAC, motion vectors will be packed more efficient, and overall bitrate will be lower, while retaining same quality. As i understand there's lot of mpeg2 material in studios and it would be great to achieve little bit more compression without losing quality at all.
PS: Maybe this possible with mpeg1 or h263 or some other mpegs and h's.
