View Full Version : MeGUI Iphone Profile encoded vid not transfering to ipod

So i've tried multiple video's and it seems that NONE of the video's transfer to my ipod. I tried Videora ipod converter and MeGUI to encode the video's.

For MeGUI i use the iphone profile my ST but it seems that it doesn't work. I've forced the re-install of the profile, didn't fix it.

So i went to videora. I fiddled around with profiles and encoded 5 second long vids. These seem to work, and do transfer. When i use the EXACT same profile with full length video it doesn't transfer to my ipod anymore.

In the advanced settings i used 1000 buffer, 200 min kbps and 1000 max kbps (never exceeded that). I always had CABAC dissabled as the iphone/ipod touch (the one i have) doesn't support that.

The resolution of the vids is never exceeding 640x(something). The ratio's are always exactly 16:9 or 4:3.

So what i figured is let's try it with the Xilisoft ultimate converter, and what do you know? It works and transfer. But i really don't want to use xilisoft because i can't get subtitles with that. Well i can.. but i have to extract them and then add them in separately.

So anyone ideas? I tried MKV and AVI files, none seem to go to my ipod. The weird thing is that it USED to work. For some reason it doesn't anymore, and i don't know what caused this issue.

Also, which iPod do you have, and is it updated fully?

Let me clarify better. I have an Ipod Touch, and i use MeGUI to convert all my video's. One a nice sunny day, my converted video's didn't go to my ipod anymore. They just did NOT transfered. Like i said before, videora encoded vids only transfered to my ipod if they were encoded for like 5-10 seconds. If i used the exact same profile and encoded the full video, itunes wouldn't accept it. I didn't even get an error message.

Same goes for megui, it used to work fine, but for some reason it just stopped working. The video's just didn't transfer to my ipod.

I'm not stupid and i know that only MP4 works. With the last sentence i meant that i encoded MKV and AVI files but the mp4's that resulted from those video's didn't transfer to my ipod either.

The only wat to get them to transfer is to re-encode the MP4 with xilisoft ultimate converter (haven't tried to encode the original). But i hate that program and doesn't support convertfps which i need for most of my vids.

I,m having the same problem. I think the problem is the Itunes software, not the I-touch. I've trying to find a software for transfer videos from PC to itouch without itunes without success.

itunes is just retarded.. period. It just stops random files from transfering. Why should itunes pick out which files can play on the iphone/itouch or which can't? We are being so screwed over by apple. Everyone who's saying that apple is great, well you are being raped from all your money.

I prefer MeGUI, i believe it has more function, but i will check out ripbot tomorrow.

The thing is that i tried 2 programs with the same result, and i don't think ripbot is going to be any different. What i also must add is that the Xilisoft converter converts to mpeg4 video not h264. Maybe that's the problem.

how much more function is needed for ipod/itouch videos

i like both progs but for ipod/itouch videos, i use ripbot264 only.

Because their hardware decoder obviously can't handle the files you're trying to transfer, smarts. It's failing gracefully rather than transferring files that you won't be able to play. I can see how you're being screwed over by it stopping you from wasting time, though.

How do you explain that it used to work a couple of weeks ago without ANY change to the profile i used... Or it might be the updated x264? Videora gives exactly the same results, isn't that weird?

^ are these vidz old or newly encoded? do your old files work??

^ are these vidz old or newly encoded? do your old files work??

I encoded a vid last night:

Originally it was 720p and resized it with avisynth resize to 640 (width). I checked clever mod resize, and also check the anime button on the next tab.

I used the standard iphone profile. For audio i used nero aac with adaptive bit rate at 100 kbs. (also tried constant and quantizer, didn't change a thing) AAC-LC, original sample rate. Audio mix was 2.0.

Tried to transfer that but itunes didn't accept it. Then i tried again with 480 as width; exactly the same settings (except for width and height.. duhh), but didn't work either.

I don't think i have any old vids which i encoded with MeGUI and also worked because i usually delete them after i'm done viewing them.

When i re-encode the video (the vid that i just encoded to MP4) with Xilisoft Ultimate converter, it works like a charm. Probably because xilisoft encodes it with mpeg4 codec instead of h264. So there's something wrong with my x264 codec.

I'm btw running on vista x64. I have cccp installed. Both cccp and megui are 32 bit, so they should work fine with eachother.

BTW, when i accidentally tried to move a MKV file to the ipod it said that the ipod cannot play this file, whereas with the mp4 it doesn't say anything. I also remember that i once encoded a mp4 with the wrong settings, and it also showed that error. That was a long time ago tho, and was done with videora... dunno if that helps.

So my only solution so far is to encode my vids with megui, and then re-encode them in xilisoft in order to have subtitles burned into the video, as xilisoft doesn't support embeded subs.

I will give ripbot a try btw :)

Regarding ripbot: Why do i have to uninstall cccp?

EDIT: So i've tried using ripbot, but it says that i need ffdshow r2633+... the latest release is 2537!

Sometimes less is better :) You need only 3 things AviSynth , FFDshow and Haali Media Splitter. Nothing more ,nothing less.

i encode every day for my iphone (megui + iphone profile [AviSynth , FFDshow and Haali Media Splitter]) and i have no problem...don't use anamorphic encoding...iphone does't support it...

BINGO! I GUESS THAT'S IT! I've read somewhere that the iphone needs square pixels or something like that. Let me try that!

^ anamorphic encoding for an iphone? lol! btw, it would be 'best' to encode 480*xxx as that's the native res for iphone/itouch although i use only 320*xxx..

Well before i started to encode vids for my ipod touch with megui, i got into the habit to select the clever anamorphic encoding. I guess that habit screwed me over :P

POWN! IT WORKED! WH00T! lol. I just dissabled clever anamorphic encoding and i'm ready to rock and roll! Omg.. i can't believe this XD

How the hell am i supposed to know that it doesn't support anamorphic video?! LOL. It didn't say anything on the spec site!

if you use a video cable to watch your encodings on a tv set you may want to encode at the maximum resolution supported for better quality (640x480)...
