View Full Version : multiple minidvd to one or many dvds

I have returned from my honeymoon in Lapland and I'd like to sort out the minidvd I have made.
Every dvd has a big 1GB VOB file plus a second ~ 100MB VOB (I suppose to bypass the file size maximum) and if finalized it contains a menu with some thumbnails to go directly to chapters. Every chapter is simply the on/off rec button.
The mental working flow I'd like to use is:
1) Join the VOB file of every minidvd (if necessary)
2) Split the VOB in several ones, according to chapters.
3) Directly (or not) input every VOB in an authoring program, thus giving me an easy way to generate a menu for every VOB I have
Now I have some problems.
a) I don't know which program to use to join (if necessary) and separate every VOB into multiple VOBS according to chapters
b) Which program, freeware or not, do you suggest to reauthor the DVD, giving me the less compression (if any) artifacts or even allow me to use CCE?
c) Be polite to me ;) I'm a totally newbie with dvd authoring.
If you have better workflow/programs in mind, please help me!

Hi!
The freeware program "DVD Flick" should take care of everything you've described.
(Just kidding) BTW - Did you choose your sceen name based on the fact that you've just recently married? ;>}

why cce? You allready have things in dvd format, why re-compress?
i would just rip each with your favorite ripper, so you get the mpeg video + audio separated in a way that your authoring software will eat them without re -compression. The details you will quickly gain with some minimum experimentation.
for authoring i would use encore, but that is up to each user preferences (there is a free dvd-styler i believe http://www.dvdstyler.org/)

I'll try it. In the mean time I have splitted the chapter with DVDDecrypter/File mode/Split by cell id.

No, I've chosen it since I was a bad guy. Facebook addicted huh?

The only way I told I married is on Facebook, I thought you read it there.

To give a copy for my parents on a single layer dvd.

Ok but there are a lot of chapters and I don't want to look 6 hours of video to manually set the chapters again. I have tried with dvddecrypter (cell split) but no way.

Just so you know, not that it's of any importance but, in your initial post here you said:I have returned from my honeymoon in LaplandThat's the statement that led me to believe you'd recently married ;>}
Do try DVD Flick...

Sounds like you are trying to be too technical with what you want to do. This sounds like you just want to take parts of your mini-dvd to make a special dvd that you can pass on to your family.
Let's walk thru the steps because there are 2 ways to do this by using a couple different programs or just one easy all-in one program.
#1 You don't need a Ripper because you made the dvd. All you do is make a folder on your compouter for each dvd and copy each dvd to their own folder for naming.
#2 You just need a program to read in your VOB files and just cut out the parts your want. There are many programs for doing this. (AVS Video Editor and VideoRedo can do this)
#3 Once the cut parts are saved, this will allow you to play the clipped parts as movies.
#4 Once you have collected the video clips you want, you can then load them into a dvd authoring program and there are many. (VideoRedo will do this and AVS DVD Authoring does this also)
#5 Then there are times when you want to make small or simple changes to a created dvd, but you don't want to re-convert the video because it will take up more time. AVS has Video ReMaker which will also allow you to cut unwanted parts from from a video and burn to a new dvd without re-converting the video. Like trimming the beginning and ending of a video clip.
That's the basics and once you learn the basics the easy way, then you can expand from there.
I like AVS Media because they have several programs that will do many different things and they are easy to use with full documentation and support. Or you can go the route of purely free. Many problems have trial versions.
If you go to the home page of this site, look for the Guides which offer more "How-to-do" tutorials.
Good luck...
