hardware decoding issue

having problems playing a few backups. I use media player classic or Powerdvd8 to play my mkv's. most play no problems but a few of them refuse to play at all. I can watch them if i turn off hardware decoding no problem, but with it on all i can do is scroll through the video, it will not play. what gives?

1) What software and procedures did you use to first create these problematic MKVs from your original sources (Presumably standard DVDs or HD/BR discs)?

2) What software and procedures did you use to first create the "good" MKVs from your original sources?

3) Do the original sources (The discs) for the problematic MKVs play properly under either Media Player Classic or Powerdvd8?

under guide section for x264 on this site. followed it word for word for both using GKont. they are blu-rays. 1080p.
and yes they do. I am using the cyberlink hardware decoder for both to view the files. like i said they can play fine without the hardware decoding on. Is there an optimal setup i should have for hardware decoding on SLI 8800GT's in vista x64?

PowerDVD 8 can play mkv ?

Basically Cyberlink's decoder is using the gpus to do the decoding and when the files are not DXVA compatible they either don't play or they give a green screen. It's a hardware limitation. Nothing to fix.
MPC HC internal h264 decoder has a set of rules to filter out the non DXVA compatible files and decode them in software.
