I have had FFDSHOW installed for a few years and the WMVs (WMV1, WMV2/WMV8, WMV3/WMV9) I have play fine but my WMV v9 files are discolored when they are played. I use latest versions of WMP and VLC Player and I have WMV codecs installed. (I tried enabling and disabling all WMV in FFDSHOW video decoder but it hasn't helped.) My AVICodec tool distinguishes between WMV9 and WMV v9 files. Using Windows XP SP3.

Use Media Player Classic or MPC-HC as a front-end with the VMR9 renderer and set ffdshow's WMV9 decoding to "disabled". You should already have a a Windows Media Video 9 decoder on your system; if you don't, install/re-install WMP11. Do you still have the discoloration problem? (VLC will not use ffdshow, so that's really not relevant). I seem to recall some sort of "beta" version of the VC-1 encoder that wasn't ultimately spec compliant and may be unsupported - if you still have the discoloration problem please post a sample video at Rapidshare or another hosting service and link it here.
