hy!
i just took a dvb-capture that doesnt fit a dvd-4 (4,5 gb movie without sound) and re-encoded it with premiere cs4 using the built-in mainconcept codec, pal widescreen, Quality 4, vbr-1-pass, 1,5/5,35/7 mbps, same resolution, same aspect ratio (16:9) and the result is noticeably darker than the original (played back with vlc). the resulting stream has now 4,1 gb.
is it because the dvb-stream is played back in wrong colourspace with vlc or what happened? the movie has small black letterbox-bars. in the original stream they are brighter than the surrounding black of the screen, in the reencoded version they are as black as the black parts of the screen. so i think, that the darker reencode is "right". .... i just noticed that in the premiere preview window the video is shown in the "darker" version.
