what your recommended to xvid enconder setting

i already saw the guides and the FAQ and didnt find answer
to this topic.

i want to know what are recommended setting to xvid encoder.
i want to obtain the balance beetwin most compress and high quality.

i will be happy to see screen shots from xvid encoder configuration.

xvid version 1.2.1
os:win xp sp3 86X

:search: You must read those guides and FAQ once again I suppose. The only way to find OPTIMAL settings for YOU is to try and experiment with encoder/Avisynth script configuration and judge by YOURSELF.
You didn't specify single fact about your encodings: what's the source footage format (DVD, BluRay/HD-DVD, camera recordings, VHS archived tapes)?
What's the destination purpose of your encodings (web publishing, personal archive, HW equipment used for playback)?
Unless you find the answers to those questions, no one will be able to give you a hint.

Anyway, to provide simple example, I'll tell you my settings when encoding my favorite DVD TV episodic sitcom shows (like Friends, Frasier) for viewing on standalone DVD player which supports MPEG4 ASP in AVI files. All my DVDs are PAL R2, fullscreen 4:3
Video: 2-pass encodings, VAQ enabled, target bitrate 860kbps, frame resolution 512x384
Audio: MP3 CBR 192kbps, joint stereo

unlike x264, xvid actually has rather good default settings.
the only thing to really make it better at that point is going to the quality preset, enabling vhq for bframes and set vhq at 4 instead of 1.
some like to turn on adaptive quanitizer (VAQ) as well.

lowering the settings below the default will only make the compression of xvid worse.

the capture is from a tvcard. 720X480 resolution.

web publishing. (not Youtube and web like that).
my target is for 50 min video get size of 350mb.
for 100 min video 700mb.

i have a problem encoding the audio during capture.
because its a usb audio source. and the capture plugin is:
ulead directshow plug in. and this plugin dont let me encoding it. its stay pcm audio.

for the run time and size you specified, 512x384 works good for 4:3 video, but if you have a 16:9 source then crop the bars and encode at 624x352.
make sure you IVTC the video to 23.976fps as well unless its suppose to be 29.97 (mostly only non scripted shows like disc ch stuff or any live, news, sports, docu video need to be 29.97 instead of 23.976).
also another thing to check is if your recording something popular then make sure a better quality rip isn't already available (as 350/700mb encodes off a hdtv source are better then encodes from analog tv cards).

regarding the default x264 settings...
i'm mostly speaking of subme=6, me=hex, ref=1, no bframes, no trellis (i would of thought at least bframes and trellis would be on by default).
i've honestly seen encodes at those settings that weren't any better then xvid, and worse on some frames (equal bitrate to).
even the scene when racing to encode doesn't use settings that low (except the subme=6, me=hex part)

Look in the Audio encoding (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?f=11) section. Audio has nothing to do with xvid and can be encoded (for example to MP3 or AC3) separately. In the end it will be just muxed together with video stream into final AVI/MKV/MP4 output file.
