hi there, the last few days i am searching about filters that actually add noise to videos, but i came up with nothing. I am looking for informations about 4 filters, these are quantize, uniform noise, gaussian noise and laplacian noise. Books mention a few things about them but nothing on how to implement them. Can someone explain me how these filters work or point me somewhere else?

thanks in advance

Sounds like you need a video editing package for that.....
Most filters in things like avisynth avidemux mencoder are aimed at improving video quality... not adding noise.

Have a read of this (http://mf.creations.nl/avs/filters/addnoisereadme.html)

If Im not mistaken and please correct me if Im wrong Neuron2, but adding some grain can help reduce blockiness in an avi, when encoding at lower bitrates. Foxyshadis and TRBarry created an addgrain filter/random noise.

Lato also uses add grain for his scripts. Checkout MCTemporalDenoise and GradFun2dbmod. The later aims at improoving video by adding grain if necessary.

My bad Gradfun2dbmod reduces banding caused by too much grain removal or over denoising.
