I am really new here I normally just read, this is my first question.
How do I add an "Auto Run" or "Auto Start" feature to home made DVDs?
Thanks..

I'm not 100% sure but if you add a menu i don't think you can do a auto play of one of the 'features' on the dsc...
It would also help if you told us what authoring package you are using.

@Shaboom

Hi!

Please be good enough to explain, in a bit more detail, what you intend to use this function for.

Are you desirous of having these DVDs start playing automatically ONLY ON YOUR PC, or on the PCs of others as well?

Hi and thanks
I have copied movies from TV and have used DVD Shrink to get everything on a disc. I would like the dvd player to start the disc by itself. I hope I'm explaining myself correctly.
Thanks Again

Then just author it without menus.

@Shaboom

Once again,

Are you desirous of having these DVDs start playing automatically ONLY ON YOUR PC, or on the PCs of others as well?

I only want them to autoplay on a DVD player..The same as a normal DVD movie.

Thank you for clarifying. I have copied movies from TV and have used DVD Shrink to get everything on a disc. If I understand you correctly, you've captured movies from television, converted them to a compliant DVD "package" (Of .IFOs, .BUPs, and .VOBs), and used DVD Shrink to compress (if necessary) that "package" and then (automatically from within DVD Shrink) burned to a disc "as a DVD" (using either NERO in "DVD-Video" mode or, possiby IMGBurn).

If all of the above is correct, and you've burned to high quality media (such as Verbatim), your homebrewn DVD should start to play automatically, when placed in your standalone player.

1) Have you experienced a problem doing this? if so, what's the problem?

2) What software and procedures did you use to capture the video from your television?

3) What software and procedures did you use to convert that video (those videos) to compliant DVD format?

What software did you burn it with? (eg. Nero, as Data DVD)

Here are the steps I use.. I copy the movie I want to a HD DVR supplied by the cable co. Then I recopy it to a Pioneer recorder with a Hard Drive (this so I can compress the entire movie on to one disc) then I run the newley copied DVD through my computer the program I've been using is "Rip It For Me" one click mode. The reason for doing it this way is so I can save it to my computer. Probably more steps than necessary but the quality is really good. Now if I can just get the DVD to start like a first run DVD.

then I run the newley copied DVD through my computer the program I've been using is "Rip It For Me" one click mode.As you seem to sense, this is an unnecessary step, since your "newly copied DVD" contains no copy protection. Instead of RipIt4me, go directly to DVD Shrink to compress and then burn as a "Video-DVD".

Despite your several posts to this thread, you've not yet stated whether you've actually burned a DVD and, if so, what the results were.

I have burned about a dozen or so movies this way and they come out great, if I could get them to start by themselves that would be great.
Thanks for taking the time to help.

Sounds like you're burning them as "Data DVD", when you should be burning them as "DVD-Video". All properly burned video DVDs should start playing automatically (either the video or, if included on the disc, the menu).

Exactly what happens when you put one of your burned homebrewn DVDs into your standalone DVD player?

I use Verbatim or Tayo discs and the ones I "brew' myself all work fine with the exception of starting themselves.
I burn DVD-R.

Again, it sounds like you're burning them as "Data DVD", when you should be burning them as "DVD-Video".

What software and procedures are you using to burn the DVDs?
