so i given a PAL DVD 9 and i'm trying to encode it. so to start things off this is an anime DVD. but it's unlike any other anime DVD i've seen before. normal anime DVDs i've seen are usually DVD 5s with four 1024mb vob files with each one being one episode. this one's weird in that it has two vob files for every one video(one vob is 20 min and the other is 3 for every episode) now while i've successfully encoded it, i was wondering a few things:

are there any advantages to keeping it as PAL or should i convert it to NTSC? and if i should convert it to NTSC, can i do it with meGUI(is this a lossless process?)

also, since the vobs are split as they are, what's an effective way of extracting the subtitles? i've tried vobsub that's bundled with meGUI and Subrip but neither have been working for me. so if anyone can recommend another program or maybe tell me what i'm doing wrong here i'd appreciate it, thanks.

Whats so weired about having episodes split accross multiple vobs??? you know the DVD file system has limits of 1gb per file right?

All that means is the video was encoded at a high enough bitrate to go over 1gb...... nothing strange!

Converting PAL to NTSC is upto you and your playback devices, are you in a NTSC country or a PAL country? PAL uses higher resolution so has a advantage over NTSC there...

Try downloading the most current version of VobSub, i have never had any issues with it....

mplayer can also dump the raw sub stream.

ah i figured out what my problem was with vobsub, i had encoded episode one but the subtitles i kept ripping were from episode two, heh.
