I guess I might want to give more info since you seem to know more than me

Heres the scoop.
The movie is Kidco 1984 which hasnt been released onto DVD and is public domain content, or thats what I read. Right now I have it set to record to DVR, it plays on the 25th at 130pm est on HBO Family HD

My setups are either
Macbook with 10.5.6 (barebones with software but I can put it on if need be)
XP SP3 pro (not MCE) with USB hookups, its a mini itx, no PCI or PCI-E slots, best I got is USB

The ways I would think this can be done is like this, but of course this is my limited knowledge on the subject
1. Get some kind of adapter that does component to usb and stream the movie that way, but then getting the DD 5.1 off is another problem
2. Somehow hook up the DVR HDD to the PC and rip it off, but Im pretty sure this is not possible
3. Some kind of firewire transfer that I read about

If you could further assist me on this I would be very appreciative

Thank you so much for helping

For component to usb you could use http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/videorecorder/ it does hardware conversion of component hd to h.264.

Firewire is out as verizon used 5-c/copy-once on all non-brodacast channels.

Pulling the drive from your dvr might work allthough I suspect the files are stored encrypted and you'd need to know how to retrieve the encryption key from the dvr drive (there is also a slim possibility that it is stored unencrypted on the dvr drive).

If the dvr does not have firewire ports you have have a r-5000 mod added to it that will give you usb access to the streams but as far as I know all verizon fios dvr's have firewire ports with working 5c-dtcp.
