In Media Player Classic (MPC), how do I get the subs to show up ON the video instead of showing up on the black bar at the bottom? I just formatted to Windows 7, and it wasn't like this before. I installed with Combined Community Codec.
I hate it because I can't full-screen anime's. If I do, then It cuts off the black bar at the bottom that shows the sub. If I select 'Touch Window from Inside', then i can do fullscreen, but it still has the subs in the black bar... and not actually 'full screen'.
Note: These are softsubs / mkv's im trying to play.

Use the "Override placement" option.

What you really want is to make sure the subs are placed within the video frame.
Go to Options=>Subtitles=>Default Style and make sure "Position subtitles relative to the video frame" is checked on.

Well Override placement was off, I enabled it, but the subs show in the same place.
As for the Subtitles-->Default Style, the 'Position subtitles relative to the video frame' was already checked...
*cries*. I can get it!!
Playback: Haali Render, seems like it does the same when I put it on VMR9***

You of course need to adjust the vertical position. Just flipping the option on will still use its default values.

Just one question, are you sure you have softsubs, or maybe hardsubs?

Internal subtitle filter versus DirectVobSub is also relevant.

Hey, how do I change the internal subtitle filter, or can u show some screenshots of your settings?
I've changed the vertical percentage from 110 to 20, and even messed with the margins, changing them from 20 to 200, and subtitles still showed on the same spot.
They're softsubs, hardsubs show up correct.

As for the Subtitles-->Default Style, the 'Position subtitles relative to the video frame' was already checked...
The 'Position subtitles relative to the video frame' has three options. For it to work has you want, you have to click it until it is something like this: [v]
At least in my system that's the how it works as it should. And I didn't need override placement (I use VMR9 and internal source filters).

Well... Hardsubs have to show up correctly always because they are encoded over the video and there's no way to disable it unless you crop or hide that part of the video.
Disable override placement, use 20 for all the margins values, put the subs on middle-bottom and full check the position box like "professor" said.

Why are black bars on the right and left of the video?
Or all around the video?
The window of MPC-HC in the images doesn't look maximized, and if the video is ~16:9 it shouldn't have black bars all around.
Since you seem to not be using the internal filters, did you try using only the internal filters?
With those black bars showing with a normal window of MPC-HC in 16:9 video, it seems to me it is either a bug in Windows 7, or a misconfiguration of one of the filters you installed (if whatever filter you are using sends the video to MPC-HC with those black bars, I guess MPC-HC is seeing the black bars as the video frame, and putting the subtitles in it as it should in this case).
PS: You seem to be using an older version of MPC-HC. At least update to 1.2.908.0.

Yea... my experience was weird compared to everyone elses.
By telling me to get the latest version, I did, when I went to the download page, I saw the 64-bit version.
So I downloaded it and realized I needed 64-bit codecs too. So I searched the forums and found Vista Codec Pack. I saw they had windows 7 codecs AND also 64-bit codecs for win7. It was the first time I saw 64-bit stuff up to date.
I installed the codec pack and the latest home cinema instead of Combined Community Codec, and now I'm working fine!
Thanks a lot. I'm guessing CCC made me use some other filter, thats why changing things in media player didn't do anything.
Thanks again, this is a LOT better.

Don't know what exactly you downloaded, but I would suggest just using MPC-HC found here: http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/category/1/1/2/
and ffdshow64 found here: http://www.xvidvideo.ru/content/category/1/4/5/
That combination works well, for almost every movie.
