Trouble ripping "Serenity" Blu-Ray

Whenever I try to rip the "Serenity" Blu-Ray with dumphd-0.6, it lists the contents of the disc and reports "Dump complete" in just a few seconds although nothing is written to the hard disk. Has anyone else had similar trouble?

Serenity is AFAIk one of the new BD+ discs. So until the fine hackers here figure this new BD+ out, you're limited to Windows and AnyDVD.

I thought so too, at first then I recalled that there's Serenity and there's Firefly.. the former is a movie based on the latter TV series, and the former is released by Universal whereas the latter is released by Fox. Since only Fox does BD+, BD+ cannot be the problem here.
However, Serenity is an MKBv9 title and that means only AnyDVD HD can process it since there's no MKBv9 processing key publicly known.. and DumpHD (and the other freeware rippers) needs a processing key to rip the disc.

keeps failing with anydvdhd 6.5.1.9 for me, not finding many other reports though so i'm going to assume a bad disc

Hi!

Try "MakeMKV" (Does NOT require the use of AnyDVD HD) - If it works with this particular BluRay disc, if need be, you can always use TSMuxer to convert the resultant MKV files to BluRay format...

Thanks setarip_old, but we can't use makemkv until the disc has been decrypted and we can only decrypt an MKBv9 disc via AnyDVD currently.

If you believe that "Make MKV" alays requires support from the commercial program you named, you are grossly misinformed/mistaken. "MakeMKV" is a decrypter/"ripper" as well as converter. Try reading the "MakeMKV" thread in this, the "Decrypting sub-forum - particularly the information posted by "Mike Chen" regarding its BluRay decrypting capabilities:
