I was trying to do a compression test using Enc like suggested in the XVID presets thread. But it fails giving this error message:

"can't write tmp/enc.vcf"

I couldn't find anything regarding this error. Any ideas?

Are you using Virtualdubmod? Because some months ago when I reinstalled my whole system after a new hardware, I had some problems with ENC at the end of the compressibility test. Unfortunately, I didn't write down the error and how I fixed it but I think I first used Virtualdub latest version and there was a problem with it, maybe ENC don't support it, then I selected VDM and everything was fine.

With the help of FileMon I found the error...

Enc tries to access the <enc_directory>\bin\tmp directory which for some reason doesn't exist in my installation. Causing it to quit with that error message.

So if anyone ever has the same problem: Just create a directory called "tmp" in the bin folder.
