No sure where I should post this but I wonder why noone have come up with a directshow filter that would enable dvd playback from a .iso/.img file ?
Is there any reason such a filter could not work in lets say WMP or Vista Media Center or in Windows 7 ?

I don't know of a DS filter.
VLC can play it directly. I would love to have one as it would enable single application for playback of all media I store on the NAS (like MPC HC). Single ISOs are easy to store and my portable player likes them as well (easy exchange).
There's one for RAR files (GPL I guess), so ISO should be possible as well.
You can create a batch file (assume you use Windoof) and use Virtual CloneDrive (Slysoft freeware) Mount Tool. Need to link the ISO extension to this batch file.
