It's bad for nVidia and for x264 too.

Fix your title ASAP to avoid a strike.
Also, what is your point here? What is bad about this? (Can't see your graphic behind my firewall.)

How do I rename it?

After they're explaining how good the VP2 GPU decoder is, they're finishing the explanation with this:
An urban myth: I get this asked a lot, can the GPU decode x.264 files? No it cannot. I know, it's a darn shame.

That's pure nonsense. A thing like a "x.264" file does not exist!
x264 (no dot in the name) is a video encoder and it implements the h.264 standard. It does not define it's own file/video format. It's one h.264 encoder out of many.
If that VP2 chip can decode h.264, then that means it can decode the videos produced by x264. Of course profile and level limitations need to be respected, which is the case with all hardware decoders.
And if the chip can't decode h.264, then it can't decode the videos produced by x264 for obvious reason and there's no reason to be surprised about that...
BTW: Did you ever see the "Edit" button below your post and the "Go Advanced" button in the edit dialog?

Hehe Hilbert should better stay with juding GFX Cards Game Performance ;)

bah. why is post-processing the measure of whether a card is good or not?
colour correction tools should only be used for getting the monitor to display the right colours (though the 10-bit pipe is definitely an improvement). any further tweaking will only be messing with the picture in a way that was never intended by those who made the content. in particular, adding saturation will just make everything look unnatural. LCD monitors oversaturate things waay too much already. 75% bars will burn your eyes out on a new TV at factory settings.
(i'm saying this in response the the oversaturated, oversharpened picture on the right hand side).

Why? Because for whatever reason, marketing (and a large number of people out there too, ick) likes to think that a heavily sharpened and oversaturated image looks "good." Personally, I'm going to stick with correcting any "issues" when I encode it and be done with it. I don't want my video card mucking around with my movies, so the less PP it does the better.

One reason is that scaling destroys some sharpness. And unless you have 1080p content, it will be scaled to fill the screen.
And in that case some decent sharpening may be okay to compensate ...

Yes, I agree that some sharpening (light LSF, for example) can help the video out some. But, I have seen many cases where sharpening is taken to excessive levels and you get a very unnatural looking picture.
Just have to be careful with your PP is all, or you might screw things up a bit ;)

i generally handle soft upsizing by sitting at the correct distance from my TV :)
though if we're watching web stuff or sub-SD stuff it could be handy. in these cases i'd just throw some PP at it in ffdshow.
i'd never touch the colour though. spent too long getting it right on the TV to start buggerising with it on the graphics card unless i was trying out some effect.

I sent them an e-mail and they didn't bother to update the article.

Myth (http://www.guru3d.com/article/accelerate-x264-1080p-movies-over-the-gpu-guide/) busted!

yes, a bad joke, smells like the LCD screens you see in some shops with every DSP turned on to the full, no thanks.
and my gpu is so cool it can also decode y.264 and z.264 as well.

someone should tell them there is NO x.264 and x264 IS an opensource h.264 implementation...
