PGCEdit question on menu

Hi. I am using PGCEdit to have my DVD jump to the Root Menu. There is animation that accompanies this Root Menu and I was able to get the DVD to get to the Root Menu, but it doesn't display the initial animation (only the menu after all the animation is done). Is there a way to get it to display the animation?

Check to see whatever register that is set to get it to play Program 1 is set ot that value.

Animated intros in menus are very often intentionally organized so that you can view them just once, then some number is written into a register and that number is further used as condition for skipping the animated cell. Try to explore pre-commands beginning from root menu PGC (in simple case you can just remove a couple of lines responsible for that conditional transition).

If you use Jump2PGC to jump directly to the PGC containing the intro of the menu, it should be shown.

However, if you continue to trace, for example to set some default audio or subpic streams and then come back to the main menu, the intro will be skipped. In this case, the only way to play it again is to apply the method explained by Blutach and Alex_ander.

Thanks for the suggestions. However, am I a fish out of water here. I know enough to do some damage, but I am really a noob. I am backing up my copy of 101 Dalmatians for my kids and there is a menu selection for language. I though I bypassed that menu by erasing that pgc and replacing with a command to go directly to the desired pgc. However, after reviewing the process, I discovered I was pointing it to the Root Menu 18 lines above my intended target. (Please note that I have corrected this post after posting the blurb below this one).

I thought I had it point directly to the PGC. The disc shows that the desired PGC is labeled VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 18 (3:26) 48b. I changed the pre command of the original language menu at VTSM 2, LU 1 (en), 4 (0:00) 3b to read Jump to VTSM 1, Root menu (TTN 18). When I click on this, however, it points to the Root menu at VTSM 1, LU 1 (en), 1 (dummy) Root Menu. I think that this causes the tracing that you mentioned. I don't see the option to point directly to PGC (options are to Root Menu, Sub-picture menu, Audio Menu, Angle Menu, and Chapter Menu). The result is the menu after the initial animation has been completed. Any thoughts as to where I should be pointing the Jump to?

No, the precommand in the Jump2PGC macro has made it go to the real menu in PGC 18 via the (dummy) root menu. Why is TTN set to 18? I don't think that is right, as that is a title number not a PGC number.

Go back to your original Jump2PGC output. Now, please trace carefully (step by step) and tell us the value of gprm(10) in the precommands inserted by PgcEdit in VTSM 1, 18. In order for your intro to play, it will need to have a value where bit 1 is unset just before it executes line 8 (permissible values are 0, 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16 etc).

Thanks for helping, Blutach. The TTN was set to 18 only because I didn't have any other idea of what to set it to get it to line 18. When I trace the DVD, it ends at VTSM 2, LU 1 (en), 4 (0:00) 3b. The original commands have been posted on the modified post above (Post #5). I erased everything at VTSM 2, LU 1 (en), 4 (0:00) 3b and placed the Jumpto command in the precommand section as posted above (Post #6). That helped me to jump to the intended PGC, but without the animation. As to tracing the steps, I'm afraid I'm clueless as being able to interpret values. Again thanks for the help.

I think you should go back to before you started the J2P macro - it sounds like you have manually messed it up.

So, restore your backup (Ctrl-Alt-b) and start the macro again. Then, go through all the paces, placing a pre-post breakpoint on VTSM 1, 18 (Ctl- Shift-T) and starting the trace, setting the audio and subtitle streams (but only if you want). If you just get to VTSM 1, 18 once, it will work with the intro animation, I am sure. But if you go to other menus and return, the animation will not be there.

Try it and post the commands in VTSM 1, 18 afterwards if it doesn't work.

BTW: You are using a very old version of PgcEdit. It's time to upgrade.

Okay. I think I understand what I did wrong. I made things more difficult that it needed to be. I tried to modify things on my own and didn't realize that PGCEdit can do these things for me with a click here and there. It works now. Thanks.
