Making a MKV from a BluRay rip.

So this is not intended to be a "What is the best" thread, but more of a "What is there"....

Simply: I am looking to SIMPLY copy a BluRay disk into an MKV file. So far I have been using AnyDVD-HD to rip the disk into a folder then RipBot to convert to an MKV file, but this is a long process (8 to 10 hours per movie... THAT SUCKS!)

For a bit of history I have done a lot of ripping of standard DVDs into AVI files. I use DVDShrink to create an ISO then mount the ISO into FairUse Wizard to rip the AVI, this usually takes about a half hour to an hour per movie. I love FairUse because you have control of things like cropping zones (without having to guess the pixel point to do it manually like RipBot), output size, etc.

What I would like to find is a program like FairUse that can take either the folder or an ISO of the BD and rip it into an MKV complete with audio and subtitles if necessary (for the foreign language segments mostly). Be able to do it from a GUI, and the more intuitive the better.

Is there anything like that?

Well, if you are re-encoding HD content of course it's going to take longer depending on your setup assuming you don't have a supercomputer.

If you want to substitute rip time for storage, you could go the lossless route using eac3to, which has the benefit of the highest quality.

My opinion is that storage is cheap. You can pick up 1TB for under $100 these days. Processing power and time is still a commodity though.

My comment about time was mostly just a vent... I'm using a 3.2Ghz dual core so I know it needs more to do it, hopefully putting that up to a Quad this weekend.

I like the way they come out tho, roughly 2GB to 2.5GB per MKV which is far more portable than 25 to 45GB off the rip. I was just hoping somebody knew of an easy to use tool (like FairUse) that could do all the convert and hardcode subs as well (for the non-english parts not the whole movie).

I'll definitely take a look at Eac3to GUI this coming week and see how it works...
