Anyone able to view "Galapagos" Blu-Ray?

I can rip and decrypt the "Galapagos" Blu-Ray just fine. Playing it back I get perfect audio but no video. There are a lot of "Error while decoding frame!" messages in the mplayer terminal output. I haven't had this problem before. Has anyone played this disc successfully?

It's cos it is a 1080i source...

I haven't been able to do any recodes of 1080i sources for bluray or hd dvd.

But that is your reason, I'm sure some peeps here know how to treat it properly and allow playback.

I don't think that's it. I've played the "Planet Earth" Blu-Rays which are 1080i. I'm not encoding anything, just remuxing.

Are you sure you're using the correct video codec in MPlayer?

Yeah, the codec is definitely correct and I don't get any sort of error about it in the mplayer terminal output. mplayer accepts the codec no problem. The video window actually opens but it's all black.

It's VC1. I've tried specifying ffvc1vdpau and not specifying any codec in which case it automatically selects ffvc1. I've played dozens of VC1 Blu-Rays with and without VDPAU without a problem.

Have you tried selecting the Microsoft VC-1 codec?

What is the name of that one? I kind of doubt it's available on Linux.

You aren't encoding, but that's not the point. If you were encoding an interlaced source assuming you could decode it would be exactly the same as any other. You aren't just remuxing, you are decoding. This is the problem - decoder doesn't support interlaced vc1.

I get the same results as you for a couple of my interlaced 1080i hd dvds.

...I could be wrong, but just to cover all bases it might be worth a look into that being the problem.

The vc1 decoder that comes with FFDShow for example cannot decode (play back) interlaced vc1.

I've had a look around and as that thread explains. It seems the US version published by Discovery Channel is released as 1080i. The BBC version (UK) is 1080p. The only difference in content other than the different video being interlaced\progressive is that sigourney weaver does the commentry as opposed to david attenbourogh (spelling?).

So I suspect you are talking about the BBC version which is 1080p and would cause no problem.

The only other title I've got that is 1080i but is on HD DVD is "20000 Streets Under The Sky" and I have the same problem as you with that, zero problems with any other title.

Last time I tried, interlaced VC-1 was not supported by ffmpeg/libavcodec.

I got the same "Error while decoding frame!" messages that you got when i tried to play Torchwood (1080i, 29.9... fps) blu-ray. except that i don't even get a black video box - no video box at all. also, the correct audio won't play - all i can get is some 2 channel commentary track. it doesn't recognize any other available tracks (even though the audio is supposed to be 5.1 DTS which i think mplayer supports). the video for torchwood is also VC-1.

has anyone had any success on this?

oh and just a note to all that i am like ggking7 here: using linux along with dumphd and mplayer (right gg?) to play blu-rays movies.

Yup, same with me. I think 1080i doesn't work.
