View Full Version : Input formats that AutoGK still doesn't support

The ones I'm concerned about are .mp4, .flv, and .wmv. I'm surprised AutoGK doesn't support .wmv, that's the Windows native video format. Still, if AutoGK could convert .mp4 files and .flv files, that would solve a lot of my problems for now.
So, will AutoGK be supporting .mp4 and .flv anytime in the near future?

Its more likely to support mp4 as output than input...

Hi len0x,
I have been overwhelmed by using your great great software!!!
It's just amazing...
But please try to cover as many input and output formats as possible... it will be just amazing..

AutoGK cannot handle .TS files if the audio is AAC, too. If you're working in MP4 output, len0x, could you please make AutoGK keep the AAC untouched?

AAC audio is not supported in AVI container (at least not by the muxing tools used)

^ When I tested it, I thought AutoGK would reencode it to mp3. AAC in AVI is not a good idea, really.

Indeed.
I wonder what are current CLI AAC decoders into WAV? (including multi channel to stereo decoders)

I've never had a problem using AutoGK to convert an MP4. I simply change the extension to AVI, open it with AutoGK and convert away (I have ffdshow installed which AutoGK uses for the decoding).
Unfortunately the audio in most MP4s is not supported, so you have to convert without audio. For the audio side of it, I use Foobar2000 as my audio player, and it will happily play the audio in mp4 files. I then use it's great conversion capabilities to convert that audio to MP3, and once they're both done I use VirtualDubMod to combine the new audio and video files into a single AVI.
I download a lot of video in MP4 format these days due to the reduced bandwidth needed for high quality, then convert them to AVI using AutoGK the way I've described.
I can't help with flv files, but I do use either Super (video converter) or AnyVideoConverter for some of the more difficult jobs. (they'd also convert the audio in an MP4). If I find myself with a video file such as an flv, I'd use one of them to convert the file to another high quality format AutoGK can then re-convert, or preferably I convert it to an AVI containing uncompressed video (so as not to lose quality with two conversions) then use AutoGK to convert that AVI to xvid. Not as much fun as native support would be I'll admit, but both the programs I mentioned will convert to AVI, it's just that unfortunately neither will do 2 pass encoding. However if file size isn't an issue for you, you can use them to convert to a specified quality and not worry about AutoGK.
