Any possibility the BD Rebuilder could add a featuer to spit out HD DVD Format as well as BD Structure? Say HD DVD 9

I have a number od HD DVD players and once all the crap is stripped out they will play x.264, but the files just need to be compatible.

I know it's alongshot, but it would be way cool

Sorry but HD-DVD is dead. It just takes too much time to write to spend a lot of time on something that is falling along the way of betamax...

My recommendation is for people to buy one of those $179 Blu-ray players I've been seeing around and just convert their HD-DVD discs to Blu-ray (movie-only). No sense trying to keep a dead horse fed...

Thx mate,

anyway you can see to reuse the workfiles your awesome software creates, to format in hd dvd format myself?

I have tried hddvdmux and ulead dvd movie factory. But in ulead it reports the wrong size of the movies, reports liek 30gb insteda of 8gb etc, so won;t let me burn it to a DL DVD in HD DVD format.

Any suggestions?

Is BD Rebuilder capable of doing this?

No, but it would be very interesting, however, with the technical side of speaking, I think that it is impossible to convert HDDVD in the Blu-ray, and that keep menus and other things. It would be good to even the option for the main movie, but again now is simply to convert HDDVD into Blu-Ray with TSMuxer, which can be further processed with BDRebuilder

All I want is to be able to convert the movie only. In fact I want to just use the .264 & AC3 files that are created in the workfiles directory.

But when I try to burn them to disc from Ulead DVD MOvie factory, the movie length and size is misrepprted so the software won;t let me record to DL DVD in HD DVD format. Ulead will create the structure of the 264 & AC3 files rae muxed together as a .ts file. But when you use the files created by BD REbuilder, the size & times are misreported so causing the problem of buring in Ulead

movie only is easy...many guides around

full menus = no way.

I tried a remuxed and converted copy of "A room with a view" the DTS-HD audio track was not compatible. The video seemed to be fine perhaps if I reworked it and this time saved the AC3 audio track it may work. Reprocessing it is way low on the priority list

never mind dts-hd...sounds ok, but takes up extra space....just take the dts core

Any movie I convert with Movie only option, gives me the .264 file & AC3 file in the working files directory.

I was hoping to use them in Ulead, but they seem to have the wrong time info in them. Maybe it's just the one I tried. Has anyone else had any luck with them?

I don;t care about menus or any extras, nothing, just the movie. I thought the file m2ts or even demuxed, remuxed into .ts would be compatible, even the raw .264 & AC3 files. But Ulead keeps showing the wrong size

I know this might not be thread to discuss another application but I've successfully converted HD DVD to BD using Ripbot.

You might want to rethink that unless you are archiving players because they are becoming scarce. I supported them while they were competing, but once Toshiba folded I moved to BD. LG makes a decent dual drive that will play both HD DVD and BD. My advice would be to get one and start converting from HD DVD to BD while it is still possible. The results I've had are quite good.

I have a dul format on my PC but a few standalones around the house. Not a rel problem as they make great upscalers

LG makes a decent dual drive that will play both HD DVD and BD...I bought HD DVD originally, and later thought for homebrews that BDs were the way to go (the future, ya know), but now I'm not so sure anymore because... LG removed support for homebrew discs in the firmware of my BD player, the BH200. Further, I've read that set-top players may ALL eventually remove support for homebrew (recordable) discs (I wouldn't put it past them!), and we see lots of evidence on this board right now in that some players work, others do not.

This would argue for archiving as HD DVD for those of use who do have the playback-ability.

I would be really, really surprised if there was capability removed for at least AVCHD "home brew". There is just too big a market for home video recording to move away from that. The manufacturers are much more interested in "selling" than in satisfying a few copy protection nazis.

JD, any idea why the workfiles are being reported as the wrong size by Ulead?

JD, any idea why the workfiles are being reported as the wrong size by Ulead? No idea. Have you tried outputting to MKV instead of .264? Just add "MKV_INTERMEDIATE=1" to the "[Options]" area.

I would be really, really surprised if there was capability removed for at least AVCHD "home brew".I agree, given that's a camcorder format. But I thought BD-RB made BD-format discs? Guess I should try it and see!

it has already happened....LG removed that function from their BH200.

Goto into any electronics store...crap shoot as to whether or not you can play BD9 or BD-R

Make sure you bring examples in to test and be careful with automatic updates of firmware.

Samsun gin BB 1500 worked, but if they are doing that, that sucks a ss big time.

Why in gods name woudl they do that?

Oh thank you Sony, and this BD stupidity. As predicted, everyone will regret the death of HD DVD

I actually called LG to complain...they said they removed it as it will be on a future model...also said the BH200 was not "supposed" to have this feature....stupid company. Fortunately I was able to reflash older firmware.

You need to invest in:

1. Single layer DVD to put a BD 5 on
2. Dual layer DVD to put BD 9 on
3. BD-R for BD 25 (or BD-RW)

take all 3 to store and test BEFORE you buy. You will be surprised at lack of play ability. One machine (I forget) would play 1 and 2 above but NOT 3....LOL.

In future I think all will play this stuff...but for now check before you buy and NEVER apply a firmware update unless you check forums such as avsforums first to see if firmware botches any such playback.

The solution for me is rather simple or least for now, and that is to build an HTPC BD/HD DVD recorder and player. I almost purchased a "set-top" player but my home brewed equipment is just too good to replace with one.:D
