Hi, I have this weird problem I don't understand with the PS3 I don't know if it's something I did wrong or if it's an issue with the PS3. I encoded multiple video files in x264 format which the PS3 plays flawlessly in any way shape or form MP4, m2ts, streamed from the computer, copy onto the hard drive, they work all fine. However when I use TSmuxeR to create a Blu-ray Disc AVCHD DVD. But when I burn it and pop it into the Playstation 3 and try to play it the video doesn't show but the subtitle and audio plays normally but I just get a black screen. However if I copy that exact m2ts stream file from that disc onto the PS3's hard drive and play that it plays normally. I've tried every single encoding method baseline main and high profile. All with the same effect, works in all form except for when it's on a disc. Doesn't matter if it's on a DVD disc or a Blu-ray disc it's the same result. Is it something I did wrong? I don't understand it at all.

I earlier posted this (http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=1235214&postcount=1).

Did you try to create AVCHD for USB or SD and check if it works, instead of burning discs?

Could this be a fixclpi issue? If the m2ts file can play flawlessly when copied to PS3 HDD, then it must be the authoring process in tsmuxer that created this issue.
Try with USB Drive, apply the AVCHDme to the BDMV folder, then put BDMV and CERTIFICATE folder under AVCHD folder in USB Drive Root directory (i.e. F:\AVCHD\BDMV, F:\AVCHD\CERTIFICATE)
Don't forget to apply AVCHDme to fix the BDMV Folder to allow playback from USB Drive.
Check if that gives you a proper playback on PS3, video with subs and audio.

I tried what you said rob but it's still the exact same problem. The only weird thing is the video did work a while back with these exact same method I use and the AVCHD disc DID play normally on the PS3 so I don't know if this was affected because the x264 codec was updated or if it's because the PS3 was updated. I don't mind watching it streaming from my computer because I have a big hard drive but my goal was to make it so I can put it as backup files which were viewable on Blu-ray player. I don't have any other blu-ray player to test it. But should these disc work if I were to get a standalone Blu-ray player that supports AVCHD? Then again the XMB is a lot more versatile than the Blu-ray player mode of the PS3, could it be a problem with the encoding? I used the same exact settings that worked in the past with only 2 options changed because they're no longer there in the new codec.

Waitaminute. You mentioned that your PS3 firmware has been updated? If this indeed was the case, then is it possible that the new firmware prevent playing AVCHD content/structure on DVD-R/BD-R?
I mean, if the AVCHD disc you created can at least ONCE played on your PS3, then it is secure to assume the disc has been done correctly. Can you make sure? What firmware is now in your PS3? I'll check mine later on (about 5 hrs from now).

Since December 2nd, 2008 the latest firmware is 2.53 and it allows playback of AVCHD from DVD-R/RW. I doubt Sony will ever remove it.

I've updated to the latest version of the PS3 2.5x. It might be an unintentional bug or maybe it's because the x264 codec was updated because some of the options that I used before that allowed the disc to be played weren't all there but I used encoding options as close to what I had before only 2 or 3 options were left out. So I don't know if it's an encoding error or an authoring error.

on a side note: I'm not very familiar with forum options so what do I have to press to change my thread's title?

Hi, I have this weird problem I don't understand...

Can you post what mediainfo.exe says of your file before you do any conversions.

what is Mediainfo.exe? I tried googleing it and a bunch of spyware adware definition came up. But the original file was an extracted Blu-ray H.264 stream (I wanted to compress it down to 4 gigs instead of 40 gigs) The Encoder I use is Megui using the PS3 profile. I thought it might've been my source as well so I tested it with a DVD extract as well as an Xvid file which all of them ended up with the same issue. Which leads me to believe there may be a problem in the encoding settings but then again it does play flawlessly in all other methods except when it plays from Blu-ray Mode.

note: I also did burn it onto a Blu-ray disc and the PS3 recognized it as a BDMV disc instead of AVCHD however it still has the same issue.

@Shadic

Hi!But when I burn it and pop it into the Playstation 3 and try to play it the video doesn't show but the subtitle and audio plays normally but I just get a black screen.Do you have UDF 2.5 installed on your PC - and did you use it (as I believe you should have) to burn the disc?

Shadic

yeah I burned it using UDF 2.5 I made that mistake a while back if I didn't burn it using 2.5 the disc wouldn't load at all.

I think it may have something to do with the encoding option because when I make an AVCHD disc out of the original video file no recompression at all. The video loads fine so does audio and subtitle.

Which then makes me wonder what encoding setting I should use since the video loads fine on the XMB but not in Blu-ray mode. when I loaded the re-encoded file into mediainfo the info is basically identical I see virtually no difference so I'm kinda stuck.

well I did some more testing and apparently a video with This setting works:

Video
Format : AVC

but This video doesn't work:

Video
Format : AVC
Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec
Format profile : Main@L4.1
Format settings, CABAC : Yes
Format settings, ReFrames : 3 frames
Bit rate : 1 009 Kbps

I looked it over and it looks nearly identical to me with the exception of different cores and build for x264.

It turns out at this was an encoding issue after all instead of an authoring issue so does anyone know if it's actually the x264 build itself that would be the problem or is the minor difference in encoding settings is the problem. Or should I ask in the video encoding section?

what I don't understand is I thought the PS3 doesn't like any profile above High 4.1 but the video that works is High@5.1

Level itself is an informative value set by x264. It doesn't mean that the video is really incompatible with PS3. I too have some High@5.1 clips and they play on PS3.

If you're generating output for AVCHD playback - be sure to cover the basic requirements.

Your 'unplayable' video is 704x400. If you can make it at least 720x416 you may have some luck.

Refer to AVCHD formats (http://www.avchd-info.org/format/index.html) for more information.

Also keep x264 ref count parameter <5 for 1080p and <10 for 720p.

Deank my hat off to you. I was so preoccupied with the encoder settings and complicated stuff I totally forgot the basics about the resolution. It works now Thank you so much XD
