I'm in the UK. I've recorded a movie from SkyHD (like Tivo) onto my Sky+ hard drive. I want to record it to disc. I imagine a normal DVD-R at 4.7gb's?? won't be big enough. So, is there a particular type of DVD disc I should use instead? It'd be great if I could play it back as HD but if not, so be it. Just want to keep it on a disc. If definitely not, I'll just have to watch out for it again on Sky and record it from the non-HD movie channel.
Just wondered if I could capture HD or 1080p quality on a particular disc though. I have an upscaling DVD player and a PS3 which is a Blu-Ray DVD player too, right?!!
I've been told I'd need Dual layer disc plus a dual layer dvd recorder. I don't know if that means hardware or software or both! I currently have a 3 yr old PC (Dell Dimension 5150) running Windows XP and I currently edit and burn DVD's with Nero Premium/Ultra 7. Is this sufficient?? And if not, what exactly do I need.
If over a certain amount budget wise, I'll just re-record it in non-HD and burn it onto a normal 4.7gb DVD-R disc.
Thanks for any advice and info.....

The only way I know to re-record a SKY recording from a SKY box is to use a capture card from the outputs. This will be analogue however.
If you want to capture BBCHD from SKY however, you can use a PC with appropriate capture card, you should be able to find the information you need if you search for it.
Once you have your content on your PC Hard Drive, you then have to decide what you want to play it back on.
1. Normal DVD player -> Reencode your cap to DVD spec and author.
2. PS3 -> Convert/process your cap so it's playable on the PS3 (search for more info how to do this). You should be able to keep it 1080p/AC3.
3. HTPC - no need for any conversion, just play on a fast enough machine.
4. Popcorn Hour (PCH) or other Network Media Tank or WDTV -> no need to convert, can play stream directly.
If you want to reduce the filesize, then you can re-encode to something like x264 into a mkv container for playback via 3 or 4 above. I don't know if the PS3 can stream mkv or not, but you could re-encode and make a TS for PS3 compatibility.
Note, in all the above cases you will need a considerable amount of time, some expertise and extra hardware for capturing to a PC. I would give it a difficulty rating of 7/10, 10 being the hardest.
Hope that helps,

There is another way to get the files from the sky box, which involves taking the Hard drive out, plugging it into the PC then buying a cardreader to read your sky card to decrypt the movie on the Hard Drive.
After all that it still might not work...
