View Full Version : Software Cropping?

I've recorded a video from my TV Tuner that has junk data on the top of the frame. Rather than crop and re-encode, I want to crop using matroska.

I see that, per this thread, (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=131232&highlight=cropping) there's a --cropping option available, but I'm not sure if it's possible within the GUI, or requires command line. Another problem is that I can't find any mention on the official matroska website.

The GUI doesn't have it no, but since it allows you to add arbitrary options of your own in a user-friendly fashion you can just click the video track, hit "extra options" and add --cropping <TID>:left, top, right, bottom (where left, top, right, bottom are cropping values and <TID> is the literal string <TID>, since mkvmerge will automatically replace that with the track's actual TID).

On the other hand I don't know if there are any decoders/splitters that actually support this feature.

I wish this function is more widely used vs. hateful overcropping... MPC + haali/internal_mkv_splitter + CoreAVC/internalFFmpeg handle it gracefully, however there might be some/lots of software lacking this capability... and those always will be hindered unless the said core part of the matroska specification is widely used and appreciated... how long has it been until finally mkv-ordered-chapters/linking are beginning to gain more robust support in vlc/ffmpeg... ah.. and what is the ratio of HD or DVD rips with ordered chapters out there? 0.0001% eh...
