Does AVSMEMORY make a speed difference in HC? [Archive]

I was running default settings and with 2-pass AVSRELOAD it was running approximately 4:1. Changed to AVSMEMORY 512 and no difference in the speed. I checked my mem usage, and HC was running around 599,000 K. However, HC showed that only 78K was being allotted to AVISYNTH. Does this sound right?? If there is no significant difference, I don't want to waste memory.

PS I have a 3GB memory, non-dual.
