I noticed this morning that build 1073 was available, so I downloaded it. Later in the day I wanted to check and see what the updates were, but noticed that build 1072 was there.

Is there anything wrong with 1073... should we not use it?

There was never a 1073, it was a bug in x264.nl.

So the ver I downloaded from the 1073 link is 1072?

Run "x264.exe --version" and you'll know. It may be mistakenly flagged as r1073 though...

x264.nl was bugged on the revision number from the C99 fix commit being removed a few revisions ago...
this was causing x264.nl to report the revision number as 1 higher than it actually was.

Edit:
but the issue's been fixed now, so x264.nl reports the proper version again
