View Full Version : Aspect ratio for HTPC output?

So I'll be building an HTPC this Spring, but I thought I'd get a jump on some video archiving for it. Then I started to wonder about something that seemed obvious, but I wanted to make sure of prior to putting in a lot of work that might have to be redone.

So, if I'm hooking up an HTPC to a widescreen LCD via HDMI (getting a 1920 x 1080 pixel-matched image), should I encode my video output (via TMPG) as 16:9 as I planned to, or does the HTPC/pixel-matching issue require a 1:1 ratio instead?

thanks for helping a newbie! :)

P.S. any links you might have to HTPC-focused encoding sites would be most welcome.

You can use any aspect ratio. Your player should handle displaying it on your TV correctly.
