View Full Version : Arcsoft and your directshow environment

Back when it was discovered that Arcsoft was a comparable tool to Sonic for decoding lossless HD audio formats I downloaded the trial version to give it a spin. That lasted about three days as I got frustrated with how it insinuated itself into my directshow environment. I don’t want to use Arcsoft matroska splitter. Frankly I don’t want to use Arcsoft for anything except processing lossless HD audio via eac3to. Given that libav doesn’t decode more than the core of DTS HD and Sonic not only costs a veritable fortune (I know. I spent days talking to Sonic sales reps and engineers about getting the decoders in a standalone package) and chokes on some aspects of DTS HD, Arcsoft seems like a great solution at only $69.99. I can accept that I need to install an entire media suite just to be able to properly decode lossless audio for backing up HD media. I am grateful that there are other splitters and decoders out there that can work with formats like matroska and lossless HD audio. But I can’t accept how when you install Arcsoft TMT you default splitter/decoder for just about everything becomes an Arcsoft tool. So today I decided to try Arcsoft TMT again and tackle these problems. I simply unregistered the Arcsoft matroska splitter, but I can’t unregister the audio decoder or else the entire point of having it there in my system would be moot. I understand that merit can be set for various dshow filters. How does one go about lowering the merit of a dshow filter; namely the Arcsoft filters. Ultimately I would like to make a batch script that would lower the merit of all Arcsoft filters to the depths of hell, or at least below that of Haali splitter and FFDShow (and maybe the MPC HC filters as some people are using those outside of MPC HC). I know that there are third party tools that can do this but since dshow is a Windows creation there must be a way to do this without the use of such tools. I want a batch file that I can simply click on after installing Arcsoft TMT that will bring my dshow environment back to normal after installing TMT. If this can’t be done I am going to have to have a “come to Jesus talk” with my renewed ideas of using TMT. If every time I reinstall Windows I need to go through even more configuration than I already do just to get things “normal” I’m going to burst. If this can be done with a (I assume simple) batch file I would post it here so anyone could use it after their fresh Arcsoft installation. Can anyone provide suggestions of how to go about this?

It's a GUI. I don't know about any CLI solution.
