Hi everyone,
Lately I started re-encoding my anime from mkv to mp4 to put on my server. (private) As I'm a n00b to encoding and don't know too much about it i'm in kind of a pickle. Everytime I encode, the size just skyrockets with the resultant mp4. The MKV files are all encoded in h.264 and have embedded soft subs. They are around 200 mb and this particular series is in 720p. I use videora xbox converter to re-encode them as it can encode batch video's and uses avisynth automatically so i don't have to make one myself. The problem is that the resultant files are like 400 mb at 480p in comparison to the 200 mb MKV file which is in 720p! I don't even want to begin what happens when i encode the video on 720p (the original size). It takes around an hour to encode and the size is humangous.
My settings for re-encoding at 480p are as follows:
I encode with ffmpeg 1 pass, main profile level 3, with 2048 ABR bitrate (which is enough and doesn't cause blocks at this size). It's at 720x402. I didn't play around in the Misc settings. The only thing enabled is CABAC and i have no clue what that is.
For 720p encoding i used basically the same setup only it was 720p (lol) with 15000 kbps ABR. Audio is AAC-LC at 160kbs
My question now is: How can i fix this... how can i basically burn in the soft subs to my videos without increasing the file size so much when in mp4. I would like to be able to do it in batches if possible.
I've looked around and found meGUI i'm experimenting with that right now. I don't know if i can get subs to work.
EDIT: The source IS mkv... I'm not an anime fansubber or anything, i just want them in mp4. Sorry if that was not clear :)
