Can I use PUREVIDEO HD with MPC-HC? I dont find the decoder to use it...

Hi!
I was trying to add purevideo decoder to the external filters option but I didnt find anything from NVIDIA even though I have the GTX280 installed with the latest drivers.
Any ideas?

You can't find it because it does not exist. Purevideo HD is DSP logic inside your gpu that enables it to decode some video formats like h264, etc, using DXVA but you need a compatible filter like mpc video decoder or cyberlinks decoder (if you have it) etc.

I see that its no longer the way it use to be where you will actually install the PUREVIDEO that you had to buy from Nvidia in order for it to work.

You must be thinking of the NVIDIA Purevideo MPEG-2 decoder (NVIDIA Video Decoder) which was sold in the past. nVidia never released their own decoder for Purevideo HD.

Yeah thats what I had in mind...I guess Nvidia doesnt have a decoder anymore then.

Nvidia still sells their DVD decoder. Click here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html) to check it out. It hasn't been updated since 2006 however. According to Nvidia's website, the Purevideo DVD decoder is recommended for Windows XP media center, but not Vista's media center. For Vista, they recommend PowerDVD.

I still use their DVD decoder occasionally inside of mpc-hc.

I also use MPC-HC/Purevideo/VMR9 mixer mode for DVD playback.. For DVB-S I use ffdshow and various deinterlacers because there's a myriad of interlacing modes. Standalone PowerDVD 8 filter is also decent but I don't think it's freeware.
